New Testament Church Of God Crab Hill

THE HISTORY OF N.T.C.O.G CRAB HILL:

The New Testament Church of God at Crab Hill, St. Lucy has a rich and diverse history. It is one that when every leaf on history’s page is written, God’s hand can be seen in every line and chapter. The church has been a spiritual lighthouse in the community of Crab Hill for the past one hundred years. Indeed the history of this great church is testimony to God’s grace and faithfulness. We can truly say that “We have come this far by faith…” It has contributed significantly to the moral, spiritual and social development of not only Crab Hill, not only the northern parish of St Lucy but indeed to the overall spiritual development of the island of Barbados.

HISTORY:

The Pentecostal church in Crab Hill, St Lucy became a member of the New Testament Church of God Barbados on Sunday the 1st September 1918, when fifty (50) members were given the right hand of fellowship to be inducted into the Church Of God. On that day five (5) members from the church at Eckstein, St Michael took a long trek by donkey cart to Stroud Bay, St. Lucy where they had baptism, fellowship and singing. They then had lunch with the members and fellowshipped in the evening service. When the day was finished, the church at Crab Hill was established and those five persons returned on their journey home. (Travelling in their donkey cart). The church was remembered as a brown wooden church deep within the heart of Crab Hill, next to the corner of Stroud Bay Road. At that time it was affectionately known as the “Little Hall.”

During the past 100 years, the church has seen God’s divine providence, his faithfulness and guidance by his supply of several devoted pastors, leaders and members.  We recognize the invaluable contributions of these faithful men and women. They have been an inspiration to many in the church and within the Crab Hill community. Pastors during that time were:

  1. Mother Grimes
  2. Pastor Harold Carrington
  3. Pastor Mabel Greaves
  4. Pastor Norman Slocombe
  5. Rev. Dr. Daphne Eversley
  6. Rev. Jeffrey Boyce
